Because it requires a significant amount of money, corporate backing, political favors, and advertising, it is almost impossible for a lesser known person to be recognized nationally as a viable candidates running for the Presidency of the United States. Since more people voted for an American Idol than our last president, why not merge the 2 concepts?
I suggest Fox hosting a new show, "I want to be the next President of the United States". And just like American Idol, the show would tour cities all around the United States. Presidential hopefuls would be interviewed by the panel of judges, consisting of professional politicians and regular average citizens, each week dwindling the selection down round by round until the season finale where people call in and vote for their favorite candidate. The winner of the show would get their name on the Presidential ballot and a shot at becoming the next President of the United States during the real general elections!
It could be funny and serious, filled with quacks and the real deal, just like Idol.
I think it would be a great way for Presidential hopefuls to get their names out there in a fair and highly publicized way.
